The holidays came early for the Fairfield boys? soccer team Thursday at Trojan Stadium.
According to head coach Felisto Guezimane, that wasn?t such a good thing.
?It felt like Christmas out there the way we gave away three goals,? Guezimane said after the contest.
The Fairfield boys fell for the second straight game, dropping a 3-2 nail-biter to conference rival Keokuk. The loss wrapped up a busy week for the Trojans, who topped Knoxville Monday before losing to Ottumwa on Tuesday.
?Fatigue and lack of concentration lost us the game,? Guezimane said. ?The best team lost tonight, but we can?t blame anyone else but ourselves.?
Keokuk led at the midway point 2-1. Stian Hoff scored both goals for the Trojans, and Roan Bachar tallied Fairfield?s lone assist. Goalie Aidan Bachar finished the game with seven saves.
The loss was a tough one to swallow given the two teams? past. Keokuk knocked the Trojans out of the postseason last year after Fairfield swept their rival in the regular season.
?This was a real tough loss for us, but hopefully we will turn it around,? he said.
Next up for Fairfield (6-3, 3-1 SEC) is an away contest vs. Fort Madison Tuesday.
Ward leads Trojan girls
KEOKUK ? Serena Ward scored two goals and the Fairfield girls? soccer team won its second game of the week Thursday in Keokuk.
The Trojans, who also won Monday?s contest at Knoxville, edged Keokuk 2-1 for their fourth victory of 2012.
The Trojans are now 4-3 overall and 2-1 in the Southeast Conference.
Claudia Sloat and Tori Keltner each provided one assist to Ward.
The Trojans won despite attempting 11 shots to Keokuk?s 27. Fairfield had 16 keeper saves and Keokuk tallied six.
In JV action, the Trojans also won 2-1. Alina Winters scored twice, and Brooke Helmick and Halie Meador finished with one assist apiece.
Fairfield returns home to face Burlington-Notre Dame Tuesday.
