The Fairfield boys? bowling team kept rolling with an 85-point win over Mount Pleasant Saturday, improving to 2-0 on the young season.
The Trojans won a 2531-2446 decision in the varsity boys? match but lost the varsity girls? contest 2302-2241 at Flamingo Lanes in Fairfield.
The Fairfield boys had a marginal lead of 14 pins after round one before settling in during games four and five of baker competition to take a comfortable lead and seal their victory.
Stian Hoff was the Trojans? top roller with games of 185 and 215 to finish the first round with a 400 series. Freshman Cody Craff made his varsity debut by posting two games above his practice average and marking 10 out of 10 frames in the baker format.
Overall, the boys? squad marked with a spare or strike at a 67-percent clip during round one, 84 percent during round two and 72 percent overall for the day.
The varsity girls hung close to Mount Pleasant the entire day and trailed by only 27 pins after round one. The Trojans finally pulled ahead after baker game two and gave back five pins in game three before Mount Pleasant took control. During games four and five Fairfield failed to come up with consecutive marks.
?There were 20 different opportunities that the girls rolled an 8 or 9 pin count and then missed the spare,? said head coach Lisa Greenig. ?These are minor adjustments that we will continue to work on during practice.?
Amanda Chatfield was able to contribute with a big game of 209 and 345 series. Megan Harris was the second top scorer for Fairfield with a 321 series with a high game of 186.
In JV competition, the boys? squad won 2137-1949 while the girls lost 1850-1711. Corey Haynes led the way in the boys? JV win with varsity-worthy games of 169 and 186 for a 355 series. The boys had a 106-pin lead after round one thanks to 56 percent marking and never looked back from there. In the girls? competition, Jami Nelson tallied a team-high game of 182 and 269 series. Tracy Andermann was 67 pins above her series average with games of 122 and 129.
?The girls did improve their baker game percentage from the last match of 32 percent to 40 percent and their overall percent to 36 percent,? Greenig said of girls JV. ?As they continue to learn the game and how to adjust they are going to grow tremendously. I?m looking forward to seeing what they can do.?
Additionally, Fairfield has several boys who are part of the team but didn?t qualify for the varsity or JV teams. Jacob Dunn bowled games of 121 and 130, Austin Gridley bowled 131, Duncan Phipps rolled games of 87 and 95, and David Haynes bowled a 96.
The Trojans will pick up their schedule after winter break with another home meet Jan. 14 vs. Washington.
