Trojan girls shake cobwebs at Demon Indoor

IOWA CITY ? The Fairfield girls? track team got an early look at some of their top competition at Tuesday?s Demon Indoor on the University of Iowa campus.

With more than 20 schools in action, including some of the state?s top teams, the Trojans earned top-10 placings in four events at their first meet of the season.

?We had a good first meet,? Fairfield head coach Ron Hunerdosse said. ?Jessica Lamb ran a quality 800 and 400; as did Erin Thompson. Marisa Repp had a solid night, and Sydney Howard?s races speak for themselves.?

Howard posted two of the Trojan?s top-10 finishes, taking fourth in the 200-meter dash and eighth in the 60-meter dash. The Fairfield junior finished the 200 in a time of 27.47, and in the 60-meter dash she qualified third with a time of 8.16 before running an 8.38 in the finals.

In the field events, Marisa Repp was seventh in the high jump after clearing the bar at 4-feet, 10-inches, while McKenna Ledger finished 18th out of 51 shot put participants with a throw of 30-feet, 8-inches.

The Trojans? 4x400 quartet of Howard, Lamb, Repp and Huma Liptak was Fairfield?s top relay with a sixth-place finish in 4:28.69. The team of Lamb, Thompson, Hannah Sobaski and Sesali Martin just missed the top 10 in the 4x800, grabbing 11th with a clocking of 10:50.

Other top individual finishes came from Repp in the 400-meter dash (18th, 1:08.38), Alexis Ring in the 60-meter hurdles (24th, 10.69) and Sydney Burnett in the 60-meter dash (25th, 8.78).

Next up for the Trojan girls is a March 15 trip to the Central Indoor in Pella. The outdoor season begins March 29 at the Mount Pleasant Relays.

The Trojan boys? team kicks off the season Thursday at the Demon Indoor in Iowa City.
