Trojan girls tennis best Panthers

FAIRFIELD — The Fairfield and Mt. Pleasant girls tennis teams put together a blockbuster dual on Monday afternoon.

The Trojans came away with the victory, 5-4, but not before each varsity match finished with two six game sets and a 10 point tie break to decide the third set.

Fairfield’s Tess Paton continues to perform well in the early season, defeating Mt. Pleasant’s Savana Walls 6-1 in each of their two sets in the No. 1 singles match.

In the No. 2 singles match, Fairfield Sydney Wells defeated Melanie Olivas 6-2 in two sets.

Mt. Pleasant’s Gisele Farjardo-Pena defeated the Trojans Maddy Greiner 6-3 and 6-4.

Malena Yocum picked up another win for Mt. Pleasant, defeating Fairfield’s Giteeka Adhikari 6-3 and 6-4 in their two sets.

The Panther’s Ellie Situmeang defeated Emma Wendland in a three series set. Situmeang won the first set 6-3, but Wendland took the second 3-6. In the third set, Situmeang was victorious winning a 12 point tie breaker 7-3.

In the No. 6 singles match, Fairfield’s Emily Simpson defeated the Panther’s Victoria Smith in each of the two matches 6-4.

The two teams battled in the doubles matches too.

Paton and Greiner came away with a win in the No. 1 doubles match for the Trojans, defeating Wells and Olivas 6-2, 6-7 (5-7 tiebreaker), and 10-6 in a 10 point tiebreaker.

Mt. Pleasant bounced back with a victory as Fajardo-Pena and Yocum downed Wells and Adhikari 6-7 (1-7), 6-4 and 10-4 in a 10 point tiebreaker.

In the No. 3 double match, Wendland and Simpson defeated Situmeang and Smith 6-3 and 7-5.

Fairfield will play Davis County on Tuesday and follow up with an in-conference match against Keokuk on Thursday.

Mt. Pleasant is set to square off with Burlington on Thursday.
