MARION ? The Trojan girls? track team held its own against a crowded field at the Marion Girls Track Invite Thursday.
Competing against 12 other teams, the Trojans won four events and racked up 66 points. Fairfield finished third in the team standings, 14 points ahead of fourth-place Monticello; Benton won the team race with 94 points, and Marion?s 86 placed them as runner-up.
?I was really happy with the results of the meet,? said Fairfield head coach Ron Hunerdosse. ?Some of our kids stepped up and did some good things.?
One night before Sydney Howard was scheduled to run at the Drake Relays, the junior picked up two gold medals in individual events and, like Tuesday, helped anchor the 4x200 relay to victory. Howard topped the 100-meter dash field with a time of 12.59 seconds, and she won the 200 in 26.31 seconds. The 4x200 team, also featuring McKenzie McClure, Erin Thompson and Cierra Bielinski, shaved a second off their winning time from Tuesday (1:51.45).
Sidney Baumann tacked on the team?s fourth win, throwing 110-feet, 5-inches in the discus.
?Baumann continues to throw consistently around 110 feet and that certainly bodes well for her getting to state,? said Hunerdosse.
Sesali Martin, Thompson, Lamb and Whitney Engle ran the 4x800 relay to a bronze-medal finish in a time of 10:24.97.
?I thought all the girls on the 4x8 ran well,? Hunerdosse said. ?Especially I thought Sesali Martin stepped up and ran a few good 800s for us. It was nice to get Lamb back.?
Martin and Lamb also ran top times in the open-800. Lamb finished second in the event (2:27.83) and Martin took fifth (2:34.44).
Alexis Ring and Grace Smith finished back-to-back in the 100-meter hurdles for fifth and sixth place, respectively. Ring finished in 17.12 seconds and Smith was right behind at 17.20.
Trojan sophomore Marisa Repp placed in two events, grabbing fourth in the high jump (4? 10?) and sixth in the 400 (1:03.94).
The Trojans? final meet before the postseason is their own Brookhart-Crew Relays on Monday.
