FAIRFIELD — The Fairfield girls soccer team kicked off their season last Thursday against the Bloodhounds of Fort Madison.
It was tough first out for the Trojan as they fell to the Bloodhound 8-0.
Fort Madison struck early and often in the season opener as they slipped seven of the eight goals into the back of the net in the first half.
Fairfield hunkered down on the defensive end in the second period, giving up just one goal, but the damage had been done.
The Trojans couldn’t find a way offensively to get back into it.
Fort Madison’s defense was tough as well. Fairfield got just five shots off in the loss, with only one being on goal.
The Trojan’s Haleigh Strickland took three shots. Emmelia Miller and Jessica Martens each took one with Martens sending one on track.
Kiara Bickham had a busy day in net. The senior goalkeeper was bombarded, finishing with a mind-boggling 27 saves.
With the loss, Fort Madison has won four straight over Fairfield.
The Trojans move to 0-1 on the season. They will be back in action on Thursday, April 13 against Washington at home.
