KEOKUK ? If the Fairfield boys? soccer team plans to win its first Southeast Conference championship since 2011, they?ll need to do it from the road.
So far, so good.
A total of five Trojans got in on the scoring Friday to lead the boys? soccer team to a 7-1 victory over Southeast Conference rival Keokuk. Solomon Constant and Austin Lauderman scored two goals apiece. Roan Bachar, Seth Davisson and Ben Boender also supplied goals for the Trojans, who are now just one more road win away from claiming a share of the SEC title with Mount Pleasant.
?We came to the game really prepared and ready to play. We knew the importance of that game for us. The players had a different mentally and they had something to prove as well,? said Fairfield head coach Felisto Guezimane.
The Trojans opened the game on a three-goal scoring spree before Keokuk was able to make a dent in its own scoreboard, cutting Fairfield?s lead to 3-1 on an isolated play on the right side. The Chiefs appeared primed to grab the momentum back after the goal, but the Trojans assured that wouldn?t happen with two more goals before the half.
The game was all Trojans in the second half. The visitors added two more goals to their lead after entering the locker room up 5-1.
?The second half was more of the same where we controlled the game. We started the second half a bit slow and gave the ball away a few times, but fortunately Keokuk did not make much of the chances we gave them,? Guezimane said.
Bachar supplied two assists, and Constant, Lauderman and Davisson tallied one each.
The Fairfield JV squad also won its game 3-2. Mitch Burnstedt scored a pair of goals and Cameron Jackson netted one.
The varsity Trojans (10-5, 6-1 SEC) and JV squad close out the regular season Thursday on the road against Washington.
