BURLINGTON — The Fairfield softball team kept the red-hot offense of the 11th-ranked (4A) Burlington Grayhounds relatively quiet again on Thursday, but again, it wasn’t enough.
Just three days after falling 2-1 in Game 2 of a home doubleheader, the Trojans fell 5-0 to the defending Southeast Conference champions in Burlington.
Leah Helmick wasn’t quite as effective on the mound compared to three days prior, but she did hold the Grayhounds to five runs (four earned) over six frames, while striking out three batters.
The Trojan offense mustered two hits on the night. Laney Norris went 1-for-3, and Faith Jones was 1-for-3, with both hits being singles.
Fairfield is now 0-6 in conference play heading into this week’s action.
