The Fairfield softball team will head to North Scott High School tonight in Eldridge to face the No. 3 ranked Lancers in the Class 4A region-6 final scheduled for 7 p.m.
The Trojans are 22-18 and reigning Southeast Conference Champions while the third-ranked Lancers are 25-14, but had lost four straight games entering the playoffs. For context, those losses were to West Des Moines Valley who is ranked No. 8 in Class 5A and was No. 2 at the time. The Lancers also lost a doubleheader to Muscatine who finished the year ranked No. 7 in Class 5A and the final loss was an 'upset” to unranked West Liberty by a run at the Hawkeye Softball Complex.
The Ledger will have full coverage of tonight's regional final in the Wednesday edition.
Fairfield softball skipper Bob Bradfield is in his fifth decade as the Trojans head coach and will attempt to take his team back to the state tournament for the first time since 2017 when his team was 34-11 and went 1-2 at Fort Dodge with a victory over Sergeant Bluff-Luton in the seventh-place game.
