ALBIA — Fairfield softball has been on a roll as of late.
On Tuesday, the Trojans picked up their fourth win in a row with a 7-1 victory over Albia on the road.
The Trojans had no problem with the Blue Demons in the non-conference battle.
Fairfield scored three runs in the first two innings and never looked back, rattling off one additional run in the third, two in the fifth and one in the seventh.
It was an outstanding defensive performance for the Trojans, as they gave up just two hits in the seven inning victory.
The Trojans didn’t do too bad at the plate themselves, finishing with 15 total hits by the end of the game.
Peyton McCabe led the Trojans with three hits in win. Danielle Breen, Jenna Norris, Hannah Simpson and Savannah Hollander all had a pair of hits. Hollander drove in four of the Trojans seven runs. Simpson also had an RBI. Coty Engle, Delaney Breen, Emersyn Manley and Brynley Allison each had a hit. Allison also had one RBI.
Engle had a great night in the circle. She pitched all seven innings, giving up two hits, one run, two walks and 14 strikeouts.
Fairfield, now 12-5, will be back in action on Thursday with a Southeast Conference game against Keokuk.
Fairfield’s Savannah Hollander lays down a bunt during the Trojans 9-6 loss to Burlington on Monday, June 6, 2022. (Hunter Moeller/The Union)
