The home teams won both matchups between Fairfield and Keokuk on the tennis courts Thursday. The Trojan girls swept the Chiefs 9-0 at home, but the boys fell 6-3 on the road.
Fairfield had no trouble on the girls side, and that was obvious from singles play. The Trojans won all six matches, five of which went 8-3 or better.
Katrina Paton cruised 8-1 in the No. 1 singles match. Penelope Higdon took the No. 2 match 8-6. Abby Schaefer dominated in the No. 3 match, winning 8-1.
Keokuk won just four games in the bottom half of singles competition. Lauren Kraemer won 8-3 in the No. 4 match. No. 5 Sydney Wells was victorious, 8-1, and Olivia Jones swept the No. 6 match 8-0.
In the No. 1 doubles match, Paton and Schaefer rolled to an 8-1 win. The No. 2 team of Higdon and Kraemer won 8-0, and the No. 3 duo of Wells and Jones scooped up an 8-4 win.
Down south in Keokuk, the Trojan boys were having a tough time in the top singles matches. Both No. 1 Blake Holden and No. 2 Jeremy Goodale fell 6-1, 6-2 in their matches. Brecken Courtright lost the No. 3 match 6-2, 6-3, and Garrett Flanagan lost the No. 4 match 6-3, 6-1.
Fairfield picked up a couple wins in the bottom singles matches. Jace Hannes dominated 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 5 match, and No. 6 Tristan Paton cruised 6-0, 6-1.
The Trojans had one win on the doubles side, and it came from the No. 3 team of Hannes and Flanagan. They won 6-2, 6-3 to give Fairfield its third win of the day.
Holden and Goodale dropped a tough No. 1 doubles match, falling 6-7(7), 6-2. Courtright and Paton fell 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 2 match.
Trojan boys coach Mike Holt said he thought the Chiefs were just a little stronger at the 1 through 4 positions, but he thought his kids continued to mature.
