FAIRFIELD — One month has went by in the 2025 high school tennis season, and that’s one more than any losses taken by the Fairfield tennis team.
The Trojans polished off a perfect April with two wins over Burlington on Monday, moving the team to a combined 15-0, with the boys winning seven of seven, and the girls winning eight of eight
At Fairfield Middle School, it was business as usual for the SEC-leading Trojan boys. Fairfield beat Burlington 9-1. The Trojan girls had a tougher time on the road, but pulled out a 5-4 victory.
On the boys’ side, Ruimin Luo cruised 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 1 match. Han Wang won the No. 2 match 6-4, 6-3. Bowen Zhang was victorious in the No. 3 match 6-2, 6-2.
Rylan Anderson and Rocky Galusha had to battle to the bitter end in the No. 5 and No. 6 matchups, as Anderson won 6-0, 4-6 (10-6) and Galusha won 3-6, 6-2(10-7).
The only loss for the Trojan boys came in a nail-biting tiebreaker loss at No. 4, where Ethan Cass fell 4-6, 6-1 (11-9).
In doubles, Wang and Cass dominated the No. 1 match, 8-1. Luo and Zhang swept 8-0 in the No. 2 match, and Anderson and Emerson won the No. 3 match, 8-4.
Individual game scores aren’t yet in for the Trojans’ win over Burlington, but it was Fairfield’s tightest victory yet. Fairfield has now beaten Burlington 6-3 and 5-4, with all six of the other wins coming either 8-1 or 9-0.
