MT. PLEASANT — The Panthers made the Trojans battle in a few matches during Tuesday evening’s Southeast Conference makeup game at East Lake Park, but Fairfield once again rolled to victory, winning 9-0 against its Highway 34 rivals.
The Trojans were a little shorthanded, with two normal varsity players out, but still managed to take all six singles matches.
Poojita Mukadam defeated Lila Cook, 8-1, to take the No. 1 singles match for the Trojans. Fairfield would win the other three Top-4 singles matches 8-0, with Ria Ross taking down Mia Gray, Sriya Yammanur defeating Katana Phangchanthong, and Faeven Gebremariam beating Bella Dodds.
The Panthers had two tight games in a row, but couldn’t pull either off, as Fairfield’s Tula Sorflaten beat Lianah Phangchanthong, 8-5, at No. 5, and Soumya Mallick won the No. 6 match, 8-6, against Shaye Barbee.
In the No. 1 doubles match, Ross and Yammanur swept Cook and Dodds, 8-0. The No. 2 doubles team of Mukadam and Gebremariam defeated Gray and Katana Phangchanthong, 8-0.
Another close match took place at No. 3 doubles, but Fairfield pulled that one out as well. The No. 1 team of Sorflaten and Alexis Eisenbraun defeated Lianah Phangchanthong and Barbee, 8-6.
The Trojans had previously swept Davis County on Monday. Those two wins brought Fairfield to 6-0 on the year. Mt. Pleasant took down Fort Madison, 7-2, on Monday, and is 3-3 overall.
