Girls’ 4X800 team lone winner for Fairfield at Don Newell Classic

OTTUMWA — The Fairfield track and field team ran at the 2023 Don Newell Classic in Ottumwa on Tuesday. The Trojans had a handful of Top-3 finishes, including one winner.
The Trojan girls’ 4X800 team of Makenzie Kraemer, Addison Ferrel, Ashlyn Lisk and Malena Bloomquist brought home first place. The quartet finished the race in 10 minutes, 52.81 seconds for the win.
The Fairfield girls had one second place finisher, in the 4X100 team. The squad of Maya Lane, Hayley Reinier, Kiya Roertson and Lilly Bergren took the silver, finishing in 53.05 seconds.
Fairfield had two third place finishers on the girls’ side. Ferrel took third in the 800, crossing the tape in 2:41.35, and Kraemer was third in the 1500, finishing in 5:33.30.
The Fairfield boys had four second-place finishers on the day, including two in the field events. Elli Zillman took silver in the high jump, clearing 6 feet even, and Caden Allison took second in the discus, throwing it 129 feet, 10 inches.
The Trojan boys’ 4X800 squad of Ben Boatright, Dylan Adam, Ryan Higgins and Riley Perkins won, in 9:04.37. The sprint medley team of Aidan Kreuter, Tallon Bates, Kevin Dorothy and Dallen Rippey got second, in 1:39.26.
Dorothy picked up a third-place finish in the 110-meter high hurdles, finishing in 16.80 seconds. The 4X100 team of Kreuter, Bates, Dorothy and Aiden Lyons were third, in 45.23 seconds.
The Trojans had one third place finish in the field. Ryan Giberson finished just behind teammate Zillman in the high jump, leaping 5 feet, 10 inches.
