PELLA — Fairfield basketball nearly had its third win of the season on Tuesday night against Pella.
However, maybe it wasn’t meant to be as a stellar fourth quarter comeback came up just three points short, 52-49.
Pella led after every quarter on the night, but the two teams traded each quarter. The Dutch took the first quarter 18-13, while the Trojans won the second 12-11.
At the half, the Trojans found themselves down just four, 29-25.
In the third, Pella would go on to take the quarter, 12-8, giving them their largest end of quarter lead on the night, 41-33.
Fairfield turned it up a notch in the fourth as they took the quarter 16-11, making the difference in the game just one possession, which didn’t go into the Trojans favor.
Max Weaton led Fairfield with a double-double on the night, scoring 21 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Sam Weaton followed with seven points. Tate Allen and Riley Perkins finished with six each.
The Trojans outshot the Dutch, shooting 51.4 percent from the field and 50 percent from three to the Pella’s 27.9 percent and 28 percent; however, Pella made six more free throws than Fairfield.
In their next matchup, the Trojans (2-3, 1-1) will play host to Burlington (5-1, 1-1) on Friday.
