Trojans best Chariton in junior varsity action

A few huge defensive stands in the second half helped Fairfield?s junior varsity squad eke out a 14-6 victory vs. Chariton on a very soggy Monday.
?The kids never let down, and we were able to fight our way through a couple of mistakes,? said coach Brad Repp.
Jonny Swanson carried the ball 12 times for 80 yards and scored both touchdowns for the Trojans. Quarterback Jordan Whitney had three carries for 35 yards, and Riley Hammel gained 28 yards on the ground on eight attempts.
Whitney connected with Vincent Horras on an 8-yard pass for the only Fairfield completion.
Defensively, Riley Hammel recorded a team-high nine tackles. Mason Ellis and Aaron Gevock had eight and six tackles, respectively, and Max Spalla sacked the quarterback twice.
Fairfield?s junior varsity will travel to Oskaloosa next Monday.
