Trojans boys bulldoze Big Reds; girls falter

FAIRFIELD - The Centerville boys simply had no answer for Fairfield sophomore Max Weaton Monday while Fairfield's girls had no answer for Centerville's Claire Mathews.
The Trojan boys dominated the Big Reds 56-36 behind a 35-point night from Weaton, their leading scorer.
Fairfield's girls lost 47-36.
'We were down 6-0 early, and then stayed in a five- to nine-point game (plus the early six) the rest of the night,” Fairfield girls head coach Pat Pacha said. 'We cut it to five with the ball in the fourth, but shots didn't fall and Mathews was tough with 24 points.”
The girls deficit was 13-5 after a quarter, 19-14 at halftime and 29-21 after three quarters.
The Trojan boys led 11-10 after one quarter. It was tied at 13 and then an 18-0 run gave the Trojans a commanding 31-13 lead at halftime.
The Trojans took a 45-23 advantage into the final eight minutes.
Fairfield had 21 assists on 24 field goals.
'That is great,” Fairfield head coach Mick Flattery said. 'It was also great to get Tate Allen back from quarantine. Max really showed how he can score from multiple areas.”
The Trojans held Centerville to 20 percent on 3-pointers and 39 percent on twos.
Four Trojans had three assists or more with Allen at five to go with his nine points, seven steals and three rebounds.
Weaton went 16-for-23 from the field and 2-for-3 from the 3-point line, pulled down 11 rebounds and handed out four assists. Evan Haines had five points. Isaac Harris finished with four points and five assists, and Joey Valdez scored three points.
Danielle Breen led the Fairfield girls with 10 points and Brynley Allison scored nine points on 4-for-5 shooting. Mallory Lyon had six points and collected seven boards. Delaney Breen scored five points and grabbed four rebounds. Hannah Simpson finished the night with four points and 15 rebounds, while Kelsey Pacha had six rebounds and two points. Danielle Breen had three assists, three rebounds and two steals. Delaney Breen grabbed four rebounds.
Both Trojan boys and girls play Friday at Washington.
