WILLIAMSBURG — The Fairfield football team had to strap its chinstraps a little tighter on Friday night, as the Trojans went into Williamsburg to face a Top-3 team in Class 3A.
The third-ranked Raiders, a team that shares a co-op with Union area school Hillcrest Academy, used a huge first half run to blow past the Trojans 54-12.
Fairfield’s offense was held silent in the first half. Williamsburg led 20-0 after one quarter and 41-0 at halftime.
Fairfield would score twice in the second half. Trojan senior Luke Konczal scored one touchdown in the third quarter and one in the fourth, but Williamsburg racked up one each as well.
Konczal finished the night with 125 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Zandrik Allison ran for 39 yards, and Ethan Bisgard scampered for 26.
Voss Richardson completed three passes in the loss, totaling 44 yards. Bisgard caught two passe for 27 yards, and Allison had a 17-yard reception.
Fairfield’s defense was paced by Konczal, who had 9.5 tackles, nine of which were solos. Bisgard finished the night with 5.5 tackles.
Fairfield is now 1-5 overall and 0-2 in the district. The Trojans will host South Tama (0-6, 0-2) on Friday night.
