KEOKUK — Keokuk and Fairfield traded punches all night long on Friday at Calvert Stadium. Unfortunately for the visiting Trojan fans, the Chiefs had too much in the second half a 44-33 Keokuk victory.
Keokuk jumped out to a fast start, scoring twice on the Trojans in the first quarter. Fairfield, however, turned that 14-0 deficit into 27-21 halftime lead, scoring four times in the second quarter.
The Trojan offense sputtered out in the third quarter. Fairfield scored just six points in the third, and Keokuk jumped back on top, 35-33.
Keokuk’s defense stood tall in the ninth. The Chiefs scored nine points to run away with the win and drop Fairfield to 1-3.
Despite the loss, the Trojans ran for 272 yards and five touchdowns. Zandrik Allison led the way by running for 101 yards and a score.
Luke Konczal ran for 83 yards and a touchdown. Ethan Bisgard ran for 41 yards and two touchdowns. Voss Richardson ran for 28 yards and a score.
Richardson completed five passes, but only threw for five yards on the day. Bisgard led the team in catches, with three.
Defensively, Konczal had a big night, collecting 15 tacklese. Zandrik Allison had the Trojans’ only take-away, picking off one pass.
Fairfield, now 1-3, will host Benton (2-2) next week in the Trojans’ district opener.
