Trojans clamp Chiefs

FAIRFIELD — The Fairfield boys wrestling team is now 2-0 after a dominant night in Southeast Conference play on Thursday at home against Keokuk.

The Trojans blasted the Chiefs 60-18, adding another SEC win to their plate after taking out Burlington on the same mats in the league opener.

“It’s always nice to get a win, and honestly I thought our guys came out ready to go,” said Trojan head coach Steve Miller. “It was good to see that they came out aggressive, and took the points that were there.”

Fairfield won the first four matches of the night, including pins from Noah Patel at 106, Cael McCabe at 120, and Kohda Higdon at 126.

Fairfield had two more pins before the night was wrapped up. Aiden Holthus pinned his man at 157, and Dain Burkhart got a pin at 175.

Fairfield also won the close ones. Both Dusty Haynes (150) and Kenneth Houston (165) battled to high-scoring decision wins.

Fairfield followed that up with a 14th-place finish at Ottumwa on Saturday. McCabe was the top Fairfield finisher, with a second-place finish.

In girls action, Aislinn Wise picked up a pin at 145, and Fairfield took a boat load of points off forfeits, as the girls defeated Keokuk 30-6.
