Trojans clipped by CCA

TIFFIN - The Fairfield High School baseball team saw its season come to a close Friday against Clear Creek-Amana in a Class 3A district semifinal.
The Trojans lost to the Clippers 10-4 to finish the season with a 4-17 record. CCA (14-5) advances to play Tuesday against Solon (), a 6-5 winner over Washington in extra innings.
The Clippers put up six runs in the bottom of the second inning, but the Trojans answered strongly with four runs in the top of the third. CCA added three runs in the fifth and one in the sixth.
Fairfield pounded out 11 hits, led by senior Elan Ledger's 3-for-4 performance. Senior Cam Ledger went 2-for-3. Junior Brad Smithburg was 2-for-4. Seniors Carter Ferrel, Drew Martin and Gage Hook each had a hit. Sophomore Nate Smithburg had two runs batted in.
Sophomore Brad Woodburn went 3 1/3 innings on the mound with four hits, two earned runs, no walks and two strikeouts. Senior Josh Brewington threw 1 2/3 innings with a walk, six hits and six runs. Brad Smithburg threw an inning with a hit, a strikeout, and an earned run.
