ALBIA — Through nearly all of Fairfield and Albia’s non-conference bout on Tuesday, the two were separated by single digits.
So much so that when the final buzzer sounded in regulation, the two were locked at 51-51 and needed overtime to settle the score.
The extra period proved to be the Trojans least efficient from an offensive standpoint and the Blue Demons never let off the gas as they took the victory 65-56.
Fairfield trailed Albia by seven, 17-10 after eight minutes of action on Monday.
The Trojans answered back over the next three quarters.
In the second, Fairfield took the quarter 10-7, but were still down at the half, 24-20. The Trojans followed the second with a 15-12 third, cutting it to one heading into the fourth, 36-35.
Fairfield was able to complete the comeback with a 16-15 final period to force overtime.
In overtime, the Trojans didn’t have enough to pull out the win as they were outscored 15-5 by the Blue Demons.
JJ Lane finished with 20 points and five assists in the loss. Max Weaton tallied 15 points. Riley Perkins had 10 points. Myles McEntee and Tate Allen each had four. Noah McNamara finished with two and Ryan Higgins one. Higgins had eight boards as well.
The loss ends Fairfield’s three game winning streak and moves its overall record to 7-7.
