KEOKUK — There were 29 total runs that crossed the plate in varsity baseball and softball games at Joyce Park in Keokuk on Thursday night, and every single one of them belonged to the Fairfield Trojans.
The Trojans were feeling it in both games, pulling off two of the biggest blowout wins in Southeast Conference play this summer. The softball team won 17-0, while the baseball team took its game, 12-0.
Trojan softball scored 13 of its runs in the third inning, and the game only lasted four frames total.
Leah Helmick pitched three shut out innings to get the win in the circle, and also finished 3-for-4 with a solo home run at the plate.
Lilly Bergren had three hits as well, going 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs. Emmelia Miller was 2-for-3 with a double and a team-leading four RBIs.
Haylee Eklund knocked in two runs in the win, as did Emma Septer and Laney Norris. Septer had one of the team’s three doubles.
The Trojan baseball team spread its runs out enough to make the game last all seven innings. Fairfield scored in five of its seven tries, and held a commanding 8-0 lead after three frames.
Aiden Westercamp knocked in one-third of those runs, finishing 2-for-3 with a triple and four RBIs. Luke Konczal was 3-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs. Dain Burkhart and Archer Kreuter had two RBIs each.
Burkhart picked up the win on the mound, giving up one hit over four innings, while striking out seven batters. Dayson Workman pitched three shutout innings in relief.
