All good things must come to an end, and the 2022 high school football season is closing out for most of the team’s around Iowa this weekend. That will include at least two of the Union area’s big school teams, as Fairfield and Washington battle the playoff bubble while Mt. Pleasant looks to end the year on a high note.
Grinnell (4-4, 3-1) at Fairfield (4-4, 2-2)
The Tigers and Trojans meet up in Fairfield with a playoff spot potentially hanging in the balance.
Fairfield’s Tate Allen has been great this year, throwing for 1,343 yards and 20 touchdowns, while also rushing for 588 and seven. Max Weaton is up to 588 receiving yards and 13 scores.
Grinnell’s Brady Coffman has gotten it done through the air with 790 yards and seven touchdown passes this year, and has also rushed for 338 and four. Kinnick Johnson has run for 526 yards and six scores.
West Burlington-Notre Dame (2-6, 1-3) at Washington (4-4, 2-2)
The Demons could get into the playoffs with a win and help, so it’s a big night at Case field as Washington welcomes in the Falcons.
Washington’s Tayven Stuart is flirting with a 1,000-yard season, as he sits at 856 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns this season. West Burlington-Notre Dame has been without injured star Travain Donaldson (523 rushing yards, 3 TDs), but Caden Schwenker and Hayden Vandenberg have combined for 760 yards and eight scores this season.
Mt. Pleasant (0-8, 0-4) at No. 7 North Scott (6-2, 3-1)
The Panthers have their hands full as they travel to Eldridge looking for a monster upset.
Jacob Richtman has slung the rock for 1,600 yards and 14 touchdowns so far this season. Wyatt Woodsmall could hit 500 yards, as he sits at 490 yards receiving with four touchdowns.
North Scott’s Kyler Gerardy is one of the best athletes in the class. He has thrown for 963 yards and nine touchdowns, and rushed for 886 yards and 13 scores.
