KEOKUK — The state-ranked Fairfield girls tennis team took their show on the road on Monday, facing off with Keokuk in the first Southeast Conference clash of the season.
The Trojans made quick work of the Chiefs, much like Centerville in the opener last week. Fairfield won its second-straight matchup 9-0.
Fairfield’s Natalie Steele played in the No. 1 singles matchup, defeating Nevaeh Logan in a nail-biter. Steele fell in the first set but won the next two, 6-4 and 10-8.
Poojita Mukadam rolled in the No. 2 match, beating Keokuk’s Lizzy Mason 6-0, 6-0. In the No. 3 matchup, Ria Ross beat Keokuk’s Baylee Picton 6-0, 6-1.
Fairfield scooped up two more sweeps in the next two singles matchups, as Sriya Yammanur beat Paityn James 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 4 battle, and Mareyn Dunkin picked up the win at No. 5, taking it 6-0, 6-0 over Alexa Sanchez.
Keokuk only had five players, meaning the Cheifs forfeited the No. 5 match, as well as one of the doubles matches.
In the top doubles match, Ross and Yammanur scooped up a win over Logan and Mason, taking the match 8-3. In the No. 2 match, Dunkin and Faeven Gebremariam won 8-1.
Fairfield is now 2-0. Fort Madison (1-0) comes to visit the Trojans on Thursday.
