PELLA — A couple of rough innings down the stretch turned what was a close game between the Fairfield and Pella baseball teams into a 10-1 Dutch win on Tuesday night.
Pella led 2-1 after three innings, but tacked on four runs in the fourth inning and three in the fifth to make it a 9-1 advantage. The Dutch put up one more in the sixth to close it out.
The lone Fairfield RBI came when Aidan Kreuter knocked in Zandrik Allison in the third frame. Fairfield had five hits on the day, with Cody Birlson’s double being the only extra base hit.
Kreuter, Tate Allen, Aiden Westercamp and Voss Richardson also had hits.
Nate Konczal gave up six earned runs over 3.2 innings of work to get tagged with the loss on the mound. Landon Nodurft and Isaac Harris each threw in relief.
Fairfield is now 8-12 overall. The Trojans will put their 4-4 Southeast Conference record on the line at Washington (3-12, 3-5) on Thursday night.
