FAIRFIELD — The Fairfield basketball teams played in their final Southeast Conference doubleheader of the year on Friday night. The girls fell in their final SEC game of the season, 69-36, while the boys dropped the nightcap 72-39.
The Trojan girls couldn’t keep the good times rolling after a win against Mt. Pleasant earlier in the week. Fairfield moved to 4-14 overall and finished conference play 2-8.
The boys, who still have to play Mt. Pleasant one last time, were done in by a disastrous 19-0 second quarter that turned a three-point deficit into a halftime blowout.
Spencer McCready scored nine points for the Trojans. Nolan Smith had eight. Ethan Bisgard scored six. Luke Thornton had five. Brock Atwood and Chase Countryman each scored three, and Xavier Kessel chipped in with two.
The Fairfield boys are now 2-15 overall and 1-8 in SEC play. The Trojans could still move up into a tie for fifth with Ft. Madison, but would need to beat Mt. Pleasant on Friday, while hoping for a Bloodhound loss.
