Trojans fall to No. 10 Assumption

DAVENPORT - Fairfield had to travel to face the 10th-ranked Davenport Assumption Knights to open the Class 3A postseason Monday.
The road game did not start well for Fairfield's boys basketball team. The home court helped the home team get a great start to defeat the Trojans 65-48.
Fairfield trailed 27-6 after one quarter, but outscored Assumption 42-38 the rest of the game. It was a 13-12 second quarter for a halftime score of 40-18. The third quarter ended 54-31. Fairfield had a 17-11 advantage in the final frame.
JJ Lane led the Trojans with 14 points while Max Weaton and Blake Holden scored nine apiece. JoeyValdez contributed six points. Tate Allen tallied four points. Isaac Harris and Evan Haines each added two. Holden and Lane hit two treys each and Valdez one.
Fairfield closes the year with a 6-13 record. Emarion Ellis had 16 points, and Noah Mack 18 for Assumption (16-6), which advances to play Cedar Rapids Xavier (11-11).
