Trojans give up pair to Grayhounds
Fairfield boys and girls fall at home to Burlington

FAIRFIELD — Both the Fairfield boys and girls basketball teams had tough losses on Friday night from the hands of Southeast Conference foe Burlington.
The girls were defeated 56-48 by the Grayhounds and the boys 75-60.
In the girls’ contest, the Trojans were right there the whole way. Burlington edged Fairfield in the first period by just two, 16-14, but a two point swing in favor of the Trojans through the second knotted the game 26-26 at halftime.
However, Burlington closed the game on top. The Grayhounds went on to outscore the Trojans 16-10 in the third frame to make it 42-36 at the start of the fourth. In the final quarter, Burlington won the scoring battle once again, 14-12, to seal it.
Savannah Hollander finished with 27 points and nine rebounds for Fairfield. Faith Jones followed with 10 and Briana Steele had five.
The Trojans drop to 2-16 overall and 0-11 in SEC play.
In the boys’ contest, Fairfield never led.
After the first quarter, the Trojans found themselves down 16-10. In the second the Trojans kept it tight, but the Grayhounds won the frame once again, 19-18, for a 35-28 halftime lead.
From then on out, Burlington only extended it advantage. The Grayhounds took the third 17-15 and then the fourth 23-17 to close it out.
With the loss, Fairfield drops to 1-16 on the season and 0-8 in SEC competition.
