OSKALOOSA — It was a rough weekend for the Fairfield offense, as the Trojans competed in the Oskaloosa tournament, losing a pair of games.
The Trojans lost to the hosting Indians 7-1 on Saturday morning. Later on in the day, Fairfield fell 6-0 against Collins-Maxwell.
Fairfield trailed Oskaloosa 3-0 after one, but the Trojans did cut into that lead in the third frame when Lilly Bergren scored a run.
Oskaloosa put the hammer down with a four-run fifth inning, and the Trojans could never climb back into the ballgame.
Fairfield had just two hits in the loss. Leah Helmick and Emma Septer each had singles.
Helmick threw a complete-game five innings in the loss. She gave up seven runs (four earned) on five hits, four walks and two hit batters, while striking out three.
The Trojan offense was no-hit by Collins-Maxwell, the 8th-ranked team in Class 1A. Fairfield was also unable to draw any walks, as C-M ace Erica Hodge struck out 12 batters over six innings.
Laney Norris pitched against the Spartans. She gave up six runs (three earned) on four hits and seven walks, while striking out three.
The Trojans led by two runs against Washington on Thursday before their game was postponed. Fairfield will host the Demons on Wednesday night.
