Trojans go 1-3 in Liberty tourney

IOWA CITY - The Fairfield volleyball team played four games at the Iowa City Liberty tournament on Saturday, and walked away with one win for their troubles.
The Trojans took down Iowa City West in their second pool play game of the night. Fairfield won 19-12, 21-17, 15-10, which snapped a 12-game losing streak.
Fairfield's losses came to Urbandale (21-13, 21-18), Cedar Point-Urbana (21-8, 21-12) and Southeast Conference rival Ft. Madison (25-22, 21-25, 15-6).
The Ft. Madison loss came in the 'Silver Bracket” semifinals. The Bloodhounds avenged an earlier loss to the Trojans to advance tothe championship game, where they would get swept by Solon.
Carly Ferrel led the front line with 17 kills on the day. Olivia Jones had 16 kills. Anna Dunlap had nine, and both Chloe Stever and Ellie ANderson finished with five.
Jones had seven blocks to lead the team. Lily Hoskins dished out 46 assists.
Olivia McClaran had 41 digs. Ferrel had 24. Hoskins had 22, and Sophie Wallerich had 21.
The top server for Fairfield was Lauren Kraemer, who finished 27-28 with four aces. Wallerich was 18-20 with two aces.
Fairfield is now 3-16 overall. The Trojans will host Keokuk tonight (Tuesday) in their final Southeast Conference game. Fairfield goes into that game 1-3 in the SEC, while Keokuk is 2-2.
