FAIRFIELD - The Fairfield girls basketball team left little doubt on Wednesday night in their Class 4A regional opener. The Trojans jumped on Burlington right away and never let up en route to a 62-31 win.
The Trojans spread the ball around all game long on offense, and stifled Burlington on defense. Fairfield led 17-5 after the first quarter and 37-11 at halftime.
At the end of the third quarter, Fairfield led 48-20. The teams top two scorers, Shay Drish and Destiny Gridley, co-led the squad with nine points apiece going into the fourth period.
The Trojans didn't allow a double-digit quarter until the fourth, when Fairfield outscored Burlington 14-11.
Olivia Jones had a big game for Fairfield. The junior ended the night with 14 points, six rebounds and five assists to lead the squad.
Fairfield now turns its attention to No. 11 Keokuk. The Trojans will play the Chiefs on their own home floor on Saturday at 5 p.m., with the winner facing either No. 1 North Scott or Mt. Pleasant in the regional final.
In previous games against Keokuk, Fairfield has lost 68-65 at home and 54-35 in Keokuk.
