FAIRFIELD — The Keokuk net took a beating on Thursday when the Chiefs visited No. 11 Fairfield for a Southeast Conference boys soccer showdown. The Trojans trampled the Chiefs 10-0.
Fairfield was able to let off some steam in the first half. The Trojans came into the game facing 2-1 losses in their last two contests but scored eight goals in the opening 40 minutes.
With an 8-0 halftime lead, Fairfield just needed two more to end the game via the 10-goal mercy rule. The Trojans reached that mark in the second half, putting in two more in just six minutes to close out the game.
Xavier Kapijimpanga secured a hat-trick in the win, scoring three goals on just five shots to lead the team. Juan Rojo and Andrew TwoHill scored two goals apiece.
Kyle Jeffrey finished the day with two assists. Dagan Burnett had one.
Kyle Schubick had a slow day in net. He went all 46 minutes but faced just two shots on goal, both of which were saved.
Fairfield is now 4-2 overall and 3-2 in the SEC. They will host Burlington this evening.
