FT. MADISON — Fairfield needed a win in a bad way to stay in the Class 3A District 4 race on Friday night, and the Trojans made sure there was no doubt with a dominant win in Ft. Madison.
Fairfield stomped the Bloodhounds 50-12, not only securing a district win, but snapping a five-game losing streak to Ft. Madison in the process.
The Trojan offense was ready to roll from the get go, but so was the defense, which had struggled throughout the fall.
Fairfield scored 20 points in the first quarter of the game, putting Ft. Madison at a huge deficit early. The Bloodhounds scored their only 12 points of the game in the second quarter, but the Trojans still stretched it into a 36-12 halftime lead.
The Trojans only had to pass the ball five times all night long, using a dominant running game and stellar defense to stretch the lead to 44-12 after three quarters, and put up one more touchdown in the fourth.
Fairfield ran for 401 yards in the win. 122 of those were from Ethan Bisgard, who also scored on a 43-yard touchdown rush.
Zandrik Allison ran for 77 yards and three scores in the win. Brady Wigle ran for 92 and a touchdown, and Voss Richardson went for 92 of his own.
Richardson completed four passes on the night for 48 yards and two touchdowns. Blake Burnett scored on a 25-yard strike, and Bisgard scored on one from 15 yards out.
Defensively, Bisgard and Tucker Robertson both led the team with 10.5 tackles. Axl Starr had a fumble recovery, and Bisgard picked one pass off.
With the win, Fairfield is 2-5 overall and 1-2 in district play. The Trojans can still make the playoffs if they can beat Keokuk this week, Mt. Pleasant next week, and also get a little help from around the area. Fairfield does play both the Chiefs and Panthers at home.
