Trojans host four-team meet

FAIRFIELD - The swimming pool at Fairfield Recration Center was socially distant but full on Monday evening, as the Trojans hosted three other schools for a home meet. Fairfield went 1-2 on the day, beating Southeast Conference rival Keokuk 80-62, but falling to Oskaloosa 78-69 and Williamsburg 112-46.

It was athe first four-team meet in Fairfield since head coach Brittany Winslow has been the head of the team. She says teams wanted to get together in Fairfield because other towns have had to close off home meets.

'It seems interesting that we have the most teams when COVID is happening, but the thing is, we have teams wanting to come to us,” Winslow said. 'They know Fairfield is doing well with social distancing and wearing masks, so we have teams wanting to come here.”

The Trojans picked up two wins on the day, both by freshman Willow Larson. Larson took first in the 200-yard freestyle, as well as the 100-yard backstroke.

Fairfield also took two second place finishes, both in relays. The Trojan 200-yard medley 'A” team of Larson, Grace Sobaski, Emma Clubb and Clare Else took silver, as did the 400-yard freestyle relay 'A” team, which was the same squad in a different order; Clubb, Sobaski, Else and Larson.

Fairfield's next meet will be on Monday, Oct. 13, at Williamsburg.
