FORT MADISON — The Fairfield football team will look to start the season 2-0 for the first time since 2016 when it heads Southeast to play Fort Madison on Friday night.
The game will mark the second-straight road game for the Trojans to start the season. Fairfield knocked off Mt. Pleasant, 38-14, in Week 1.
The Trojans ran for 350 yards and four touchdowns against the Panthers. Cason Miller alone ran for 236 yards and three scores, and also caught the only pass of the game, a two-yard reception from Landon Nodurft.
Fairfield’s defense held Mt. Pleasant to just one offensive score, and finished the night with four takeaways. Tallon Bates had two interceptions, including a pick-six and both Bode Hoskins and Sam Weaton recovered fumbles.
Fort Madison beat Burlington 15-12 in the first game of the season. The Bloodhounds scored twice, once on a seven-yard rush by Hayden Segoviano, and once on a five-yard touchdown pass from Marcus Guzman to Henry Wiseman.
The Fort Madison offense couldn’t get much going yardswise. The Bloodhounds only threw for 93 yards and a score, and rushed for 76 yards and a score.
Fort Madison’s defense had a dominant outing, thanks in part to a seven-tackle day by senior Jamarkus Kline and a fumble recovery by senior Teague Smith.
The Bloodhounds go into Friday night’s game having won the last four games against Fairfield. Fort Madison ended Fairfield’s lengthy winning streak in the series with a 23-16 win in 2019. Following blowouts in 2020 and 2021, the Trojans nearly took down the Bloodhounds last fall, but Fort Madison pulled out a 16-13 comeback victory.
Friday night’s game begins at 7:30 p.m. There will be no freshman game.
