FAIRFIELD - The Fairfield soccer teams have seen plenty of success over the last decade. Since the 2012-13 season, there has been just one losing season between the Trojan boys' and girls' programs.
The Fairfield boys were Southeast Conference champions in 2018. Coach Felisto Guezimane's team went 10-7 overall on the season and 7-1 in conference play.
The Trojan boys have plenty to be excited about. There were 13 Fairfield boys who had points either via goals or assists in 2019, and 10 of those were sophomores or freshmen.
Guezimane says leading returner Eli Moore, who made the All-SEC squad in 2019, will be key again for the team this year. Moore scored six goals and dished out three assists in 2019.
Xavier Kapimimpanga tied his classmates for third on the team with six goals last year, and also had two assists. Landen Schafer (four goals, three assists) and defenseman Dagan Burnett were All-SEC Honorable Mentions.
The Fairfield girls were 7-7 overall and 5-3 in SEC play in 2019. The Trojans finished tied with Fort Madison for second and one game behind SEC-champion Mt. Pleasant.
Coach Brittany Winslow's squad placed one sophomore on the All-Conference first team, Trisha Westphal. Westphal was one of the top goalkeepers in the SEC as a sophomore, finishing the year with 153 saves and an 85 percent save percentage. She played every minute in net during the 2019 season.
Clare Else senior had 11 goals in 2019 and also dished out one assist, which helped get her on the All-SEC Honorable Mention list.
Both Fairfield coaches say they look for the SEC to be quite a different ride in 2019 as Burlington joins the fray for the first spring since joining the SEC.
