FAIRFIELD — If Monday was an indication, the 2022 boys golf season will be a wild one in the Southeast Conference.
Just 11 strokes separated the Top-3 teams at Fairfield’s home meet, which included all SEC schools except Burlington. The hosting Trojans stood tall, winning the meet by two.
Fairfield sneaked past Washington 169-171 to earn the first win in the conference’s regular season. Mt. Pleasant finished third, at 180. Keokuk shot 193, and Fort Madison brought up the rear with a 194.
The Trojans were led by Max Weaton, who shot 37. Sam Weaton and Dev Eisner each shot 43. Evan Haines and Nate Smithburg finished out at 44, and Nile Christensen ended at 47.
Like Fairfield, Washington put all players below 50. Roman Roth shot a 38 to lead the way. John Prochaska shot 42. Grant Sobaski finished at 45. Teague Mayer ended at 46. Isaac Vetter shot 47, and Luke Beenblossom ended at 49.
Mt. Pleasant earned the Top-2 spots on the day as Nick Matheney and Reece Kempker both shot 37 to take medalist honors. Reece Coffman shot 48. Nate Dismang finished at 58. Ben Meador and Izaac Zihlman each shot 61.
All five teams will be together again on Thursday at Fort Madison.
