Harwood led Fairfield (10-21, 3-9 SEC) to a 6-2 win in the nightcap after Spencer Peterman struck out nine as the winning pitcher in a 10-4 victory to open the night against the Chiefs (5-17, 0-10)
?It definitely feels good to finish the week at 4-2, and these past four games are definitely something we can build on,? said head coach Josh Allison. ?Both Corbin and Spencer threw it very well, and only one error defensively in the doubleheader makes it much easier to win baseball games.?
Fairfield racked up a total of 10 extra-base hits on the night ? by far a season best ? including Harwood hitting for the cycle in seven at-bats across the two games. The junior helped his own cause in game two, coming around to score four runs beginning with a steal of home to get things started in the top of the first.
Seth Davisson and Josh Dimmitt also had multi-hit performance as part of the 11-hit offense in game two.
In the opener, Peterman scattered 12 Chief hits across seven strong innings while also going 3-4 with a pair of two-baggers at the plate.
The Trojans broke the game open with a five-run fourth inning when Brent Buch came up with the big hit ? a two-RBI double to plate Josh Dimmitt and Harwood. Buch came around to score two batters later to give Fairfield its biggest lead at 8-0.
?Brent, Josh ad Seth [Davisson] were swinging very well, and a lot of the guys are starting to square up the baseball,? Allison said. ?It?s a busy week next week, and we need to stay focused and keep building on what we?ve put together.?
Fairfield has games scheduled for four-straight nights coming out of the holiday weekend starting with a trip to play Mid-Prairie Tuesday and ending the week with conference doubleheaders at Washington and at home against Keokuk.
