Fairfield, Mt. Pleasant and Washington will all be playing for the same ticket to the Clsas 3A state baseball tournament.
The Trojans, Panthers and Demons were all placed in Class 3A Substate 5 last week when the Iowa High School Athletic Association released its big school baseball pairings.
The top seeded team of the three was Fairfield. The Trojans will host Keokuk in the first round of the tournament on July 12.
The Trojans, which currently sit at 21-8 overall, swept the Chiefs (6-14) in the regular season series.
The winner of Fairfield’s game against Keokuk will play either No. 7 Davenport Assumption (21-12) or Davis County in the semifinals.
On the other side of the bracket, fourth-seeded Mt. Pleasant (19-7) takes on Fort Madison (11-15) at Mapleleaf Athletic Complex. The Panthers will be looking for revenge against the Bloodhounds, who spoiled a potential conference championship for Mt. Pleasant earlier this week.
Mt. Pleasant and Fort Madison will be playing for the chance to go up against top-seeded but now 14th-ranked Central DeWitt (19-12) and Washington. The Demons are the No. 8 seed in the Substate, and will be playing on the road.
The semifinals will take place on July 15, with the final game being played two days later. Sites for those games will be announced closer to gametime.
