KEOKUK ? The individual performances were there, but a lack of depth continued to harm the Fairfield swim team in a Tuesday dual with Keokuk.
Fairfield won four events and finished runner-up in three others, but a much larger Chiefs squad grabbed its points wherever it could en route to a 124-55 win in Keokuk.
?It is tough to go against a team of 18 and earn enough points to win a meet,? said Fairfield head coach Lisa Greenig. ?However we have several good things to consider.?
A few of those good things included a 1-2 finish from senior Jaci Bell and freshman Katherine Mueller in the 3-meter dive. Bell, a state-qualifying diver last season, won the competition with a score of 149.15, and Mueller finished well ahead of the third-place diver at 146.05.
Fairfield junior Baylee Bowman also added two more gold medals to her ever-growing collection. Bowman finished nearly 13 seconds ahead of the runner-up in the 500-yard freestyle (6:07), and she won the 100-yard breaststroke by more than two seconds (1:22.51).
One other individual win came from junior Jade Greiner, who was competing in her first meet of the season. Greiner swam to a three-second victory in the 100-yard butterfly with a clocking of 1:05.24.
Runner-up relays for Fairfield included the 200-yard medley and 400-yard freestyle. The team of Hanna Kerr, Allison Angstread, Greiner and Bowman finished second in the 200-medley with a time of 2:17.56, while the 400-freestyle featuring Dorian Larson, Angstead, Greiner and Bowman was runner-up in 4:28.97.
Kerr added a third-place finish (1:20.97) in the 100-breaststroke, Angstead took third in the 200-individual medley (3:02.51) and Larson was third in the 200-freestyle (2:41.54).
Next up for the Fairfield swimmers and divers is the Marshalltown Invite on Saturday.
