Fairfield defeats Fort Madison for huge SEC win

FORT MADISON — The Fairfield Trojan girls got a massive win on Friday night against Southeast Conference foe and last seasons conference champions Fort Madison, 46-38.
Danielle Breen scored a season high 26 points for the Trojans in the win.
Both teams came into the contest on winning streaks. Fairfield was on a two game win streak after defeating Washington and Ottumwa.
The Bloodhounds were undefeated, 3-0, until their matchup with the Trojans on Friday.
Fairfield came out and did exactly what they needed to do. The Trojans outscored the Bloodhounds 14-8 in the first and never looked back.
In the second, Fairfield continued to dominate on both ends of the court, holding Fort Madison to just six points to the Trojans’ 12.
Fort Madison was held to single digits in two quarters for the first time this season.
Fairfield went into the locker room leading, 26-14.
In the third quarter, Fort Madison began to turn things around, but the damage had been done.
The Trojans were outscored 12-8 in the third, cutting their lead to just eight points heading into the fourth.
Both teams were neck and neck in the fourth, and Fairfield never allowed Fort Madison to gain ground. Both teams scored 12 points in the final quarter.
Besides Breen’s scoring, Mallory Lyon added eight points for the Trojans while also bagging 12 rebounds. Anna Dunlap scored four.
Fort Madison did a good job on Fairfield’s Delaney Breen, who is the Trojan’s leading scorer, averaging 18.8 points per game. She scored three.
Kelsey Pacha scored two points while grabbing nine rebounds. Brynley Allison also finished with two points and pulled down seven rebounds. Savannah Hollander scored one.
The Trojans are now 3-1 on the season and 2-0 in conference play, tied with Keokuk.
Next up, Fairfield will play host to Pella on Tuesday, Dec. 14. The game is set to begin at 6 p.m.
