Despite a fourth-place finish in the final top-heavy Southeast Conference standings, the Fairfield baseball team rallied to put five players on the first-team squad.
Jake Dunbar was a senior leader for the Trojans all season from his second-base position and finished the year with a team-high .406 average from the plate that included 11 doubles, 30 runs scored, 17 stolen bases and 27 RBI?s ? also team highs. Dunbar is joined by fellow infielder Corbin Harwood, who hit .324 with 26 runs batted in in his sophomore season.
Known mostly for their gloves, outfielder Ryan Brewington and Tyler Cooksey also made it onto the first team, but Brewington also did it with the bat. The senior finished the year batting .366 ? second only to Dunbar on the team. Willie Ghent was the Trojans? ace from the mound pitching nearly two times more innings than anyone else, but also spent plenty of time at the plate, where he hit .346. Junior Brandon Veirs was given honorable mention after hitting a team-best five home runs.
Kaleb Rich of conference-champion Washington and Mount Pleasant?s Henry Kreiger-Coble were named co-SEC Players of the Year. For the complete list of honorees, read the Tuesday, July 20 edition of the Fairfield Ledger.
