Trojans run at Don Newell Classic
Patterson leads boys to 2nd-place finish, girls take 6th

OTTUMWA — The Fairfield track teams were in Ottumwa on Tuesday night for the 2022 Don Newell Classic. In a tough field, the Trojan boys led the way with a fourth-place finish. The girls finished sixth.
The Trojan boys scored 29.50 points on the day. Pella dominated the event, putting up 112.
River Patterson was the Trojans’ lone winner on the day. Patterson sped out ahead in the 200-meter dash, crossing the tape in 22.78 seconds.
The Trojan boys had three relays finish second. The 4X100 team of Connor Lyons, Hunter Cecchini, Tallon Bates and Patterson took second, in 45.84 seconds. The 4X400 squad of Dylan Hunter, Gavin Van Veen, Kaidyn Mickels and Dallen Rippey took the silver in 3:36.87, and the 4X800 team of Ben Boatright, Dylan Adam, Van Veen and Mickels won in 9:00.13.
The Fairfield girls scored 43 points. Iowa City West took the girls’ team championship with 169.50.
Anna Dunlap had the top result for the Trojan girls, finishing second place in the 100-meter dash. She crossed the tape in 13.21 seconds.
Kelsey Pacha jumped into the shot put field and scooped up a Top-3 finish, getting third. Pacha hurled the shot put 34-02.50.
