The Fairfield Trojans girls? track team ran into elite squads Tuesday at the 39th Annual Timm Lamb Pen City Relays in Fort Madison.
Mt. Pleasant, which possesses one of the best girls? track teams in the state, took first place in Class A with 144 total points. Washington and Cedar Rapids Jefferson came in second and third, while Fairfield came in fourth place with 80.50 points. Meet host Fort Madison and the Keokuk Chiefs rounded out the Class A teams.
Many Trojans had quality finishes and continued to improve their times. Sydney Burnett earned second in the 100-meter dash and also grabbed fourth in the long jump. Taylor Ferrel continues to run well in the 1500-meter race, placing second with the time of 5:14.70.
The 4x400 relay team finished second overall, and each member of that team had great individual event times as well. Sami Fritz got a second place finish in the 800-meter run and Kenady Waugh earned third place in the 400-meter dash. Marisa Repp barely missed out on winning the 200-meter dash, earning second with the time of 27.80 (the winning time was 27.60). Ashlyn Elmore finished second in the 3000-meter run.
Fairfield excelled in the discus throw, with Madison Roberts and Kaylee Watson finishing in third and fourth place. Jada Lippincott won the JV competition with a throw of 78-04.
Fairfield coach Ron Hunerdosse was pleased with the overall depth his team displayed.
?If we?re going to finish top two in the conference, we?re going to need contributions from everyone, not just the people always at the top,? Hunerdosse said.
