A minor error relative to the world around us, but a major error in the Fairfield Trojan sports world was made by me in recent weeks. While well aware of the FHS softball teams' attempt to lead the Southeast Conference standings from wire-to-wire as I attended every home game and as many road contests as possible, as many of you know, I lost track of the standings when doing a story towards the end of the season regarding possible scenarios for baseball and softball headed into the final week and became under the impression that a late-season loss at Keokuk left the Trojans with a tie headed into the final double header with Mt. Pleasant. I knew that wasn't correct because I had spoken many times over the season with head coach Bob Bradfield about his worries that the season would come down to Mt. Pleasant and as many of you know, that has been tricky for the Trojans in recent years. Several state tournament teams struggled at the end of the season to secure SEC titles they probably deserved. Many of the things reported were coincidentally true such as a Trojans loss in the final game would have resulted in finishing second, however, their walk-off win did secure the outright title with a 13-3 mark versus 12-4 for the Panthers. I apoligize for this monumental error relative to any I could ever accept making.
