FAIRFIELD — Goals continued to be hard to come by for the Fairfield girls soccer team on Tuesday, but the Trojans did see their chances begin to come.
A short-handed Trojan squad played with no subs due to illness, but Fairfield still showed signs of promise. Mediapolis, however, was too powerful in a 3-0 Bullette victory.
Fairfield contained every Bullette on the field except for one. Junior star Payton Bush scored all three goals, two in the first half and one in the second.
Those three goals may seem small when one considers 17 shots on goals from the Bullettes. Mediapolis kept the pressure on Fairfield keeper Kiara Bickham, who made her return from injury, but Bickham saved 19 shots.
“Having Kiara back is huge,” said Fairfield head coach Alex Cardenas. She's playing phenomenal for us.
The Trojans had seven shots on the day, five on goal. Delaney Breen sent three shots on goal, and Savannah Hollander had two.
Fairfield’s shots were mostly quality chances, as Breen and Hollander had a step on the Bullette defense, but the ball never found the net.
“Everything is sort of new to them, but they are starting to get a feel for it,” Cardenas said. “Hopefully the second half of the season starts to bring everything together for us.”
Fairfield is now 0-8 overall. They’ll put there 0-5 Southeast Conference record on the line at Burlington (7-0, 5-0) on Thursday).
