Keokuk - It wasn't a pertty site for Fairfield football fans on Friday night, as the Trojans had their worst result of the year thus far at Calvert Stadium in Keokuk. The Chiefs shut the Trojan offense down and scored a season high for themselves, winning 61-0.
Keokuk's offense relied heavily on the run in the first half, and it paid off to the tune of five scores. The passing game got one as well and the Chiefs were up 21-0 after one quarter and 42-0 at halftime.
The entire second half was played under a running clock. Keokuk tacked on three more scores but missed a couple of extra points, and it was 61-0 after three quarters. There were no scores in the fourth.
The Fairfield ofefnse gained 102 total yards, 63 of which came on the ground. They had trouble converting on third and fourth down, going 1-7 on third and 0-3 on fourth.
The turnover bug bit the Trojan offense in a big way. Keokuk picked off four passes and fell scooped up three fumbles.
The Trojans were coming off a grueling homecoming game, in which Fairfield fell to Ft. Madison 23-16 in double overtime.
Fairfield fell to 0-7 on the year and 0-3 in district play. They've got two-straight home games against ranked opponents coming up, hosting No. 10 Washington this week and No. 9 Solon in their final game.
