Trojans sweep Bloodhounds
Fairfield wins pair over Fort Madison in Southeast Conference opener

FAIRFIELD — Fairfield baseball had it clicking in its Southeast Conference opener against Fort Madison on Tuesday night.
The Trojans downed the Bloodhounds in a 6-0 shutout in game one and followed up with a 13-4 winner in game two.
Both teams went scoreless through the opening inning in game one.
From then on out it was all Fairfield.
In the second, Luke Konczal reached first on an error and Tallon Bates followed up with a single to put runner at first and second.
Brody Phillips then delivered a two-out RBI single to center, scoring both Konczal and Bates.
The Trojans would never give up the lead.
In the third, Landon Nodurft, Dain Burkhart and Caden Allison all singled to load the bases for Voss Richardson.
Richardson then drilled a single of his own to bring Nodurft across home plate.
In the next at-bat, Bates grounded out to short, but notched an RBI while scoring Burkhart in the process.
Allison later scored on a wild pitch to give the Trojans an 5-0 lead.
After a scoreless fourth, the Trojans added one more to their total in the bottom of the fifth to cap off the victory.
Aiden Westercamp scored an RBI single, scoring Burkhart.
Burkhart finished 2-for-4 and Brody Phillips went 1-for-3 while driving in a pair. Bates and Westercamp each went 1-for-3 with an RBI. Richardson ended 2-for-2 with an RBI, while Tate Allen finished 1-for-3 and Nodurft 1-for-4.
Allen threw a complete game, allowing four hits, while striking out 10.
In game two, it was a scoring fest by both teams through four straight innings.
Fairfield would end scoring in all but one inning in the matchup.
Fort Madison opened up the scoring in the top half of the first and the Trojans got on of their own in the bottom of the inning off an RBI ground out from Dain Burkhart scoring Tate Allen.
For the next three innings, the Bloodhounds score one run in each, but the Trojans tallied five runs in that span.
After a pair of outs to kick off the bottom of the second, Brody Phillips earned a spot on first after being hit by a pitch and then Aidan Kreuter hit a single to place runners on first and second.
In the next trip to the plate, Allen connected on an two RBI double, bringing both runners home and make it a 3-2 ballgame.
After a single by Burkhart to kick off the third, two straight flyouts to center and three walks later Burkhart home made it home. Phillips was awarded the RBI for drawing the final walk.
Heading into the fourth, the Trojans held onto a 4-2 lead.
After their one run in the top half of the fourth, the Bloodhounds would never score again.
Meanwhile, the Trojans added two more runs in the bottom half of the frame with an two RBI triple to deep center from Tallon Bates, making it a 6-2 game.
In the fifth, the Trojans added five runs of insurance to really put the game away.
Burkhart and Bates both tallied a pair of RBIs in the fifth frame on a single and double and Bates scored on an error.
Two additional runs were scored in the sixth off the bat of Nodurft and an error by Fort Madison that scored Kreuter.
Bates finished 2-for-4 at the plate with a double, triple and four RBIs. Burkhart went 2-for-5 with three RBIs.
Allen went 2-for-2 with a double and a pair of RBIs. Phillips ended 2-for-2 with an RBI as well.
Nodurft went 1-for-4 with one RBI. Caden Allison closed out 1-for-2 and Kreuter went 1-for-3.
Bates threw seven innings, giving up four runs (three earned), two hits, four walks and three strikeouts.
With the pair of wins, Fairfield moves to 5-4 on the season and 2-0 in SEC play.
