Following a strong performance against Albia on Monday girls? tennis team notched another win Tuesday with a 6-3 win over Fort Madison in Southeast Conference play.
The Trojans took wins in the top four singles matches as Olivia Bachar bested Sierra Lunsden 8-5 at No. 1, Megan Proctor beat Jonna Eckhardt 8-1 at No. 2, Whitney Taglauer won 9-8 (7-5) over Julie Ham at No. 3 and Serena Ward tallied an 8-6 victory at No. 4.
?Whitney Taglauer played a very wily opponent in a test of nerves as Julie Ham came back from 1-7 and numerous match points to tie the match at 8-8,? said head coach Bill Sheppard. ?Points averaged a dozen or more shots each before Whitney finally won the tiebreaker.?
Fairfield also won No. 1 and No. 3 doubles as Bachar and Proctor teamed up to win 8-2 and the duo of Ward and Courtney Kerr won 8-2. Even in Fairfield?s losses, the Trojans hung tough losing 8-5 twice in singles and 8-6 in doubles.
